Torrevieja is a great option for those wanting the comfort of a town on your doorstep, with the convenience of being able to explore the many options a city will offer by foot or car. The urbanisations between Torrevieja and La Mata attracts a lot of the expats, who are mostly Northern European. This lively community spans all ages from retirees to young families.
The World Health Organization has confirmed what many people have believed for years, namely that Costa Blanca is one of the healthiest areas in the world to live in. Costa Blanca has an excellent year-round climate with 320 days of sunshine per year, Torrevieja has especially a favorble microclimate due to the big saltlakes surrounding the town. Humidity is low and ideal for people with arthritis and other climate-affected health problems. The average temperature over the year is 18 degres celsius.
Torrevieja has a protected Natural Park with two salt lakes, and 20 kms of coastline containing six large beaches - La Mata, Cabo Cervera, Los Locos, El Cura, Los Náufragos and Ferris - and about 20 coves with an abundance of cliffs.
Torrevieja is 47kms from Alicante, the provincial capital, and about 40kms from the airports of Alicante and San Javier, it stands out for it’s conversion in recent years into a first class tourist centre. Torrevieja has a population of 100,000 inhabitants and is contained within town boundaries which are adjacent to Guardamar del Segura to the north, Rojales and Benijófar to the west, Montesinos and San Miguel de Salinas to the southwest and the Orihuela beaches to the south.
